About us
Who we are
The Evelyn Glennie Foundation (CIO) has a unique mission - to teach the world to listen.
Created by Dame Evelyn Glennie, the world’s first full-time solo percussionist, our Foundation builds on a lifetime of her experiences as a profoundly deaf musician, harnessing her unique understanding of the importance of listening to help others develop the ability to listen with purpose.
Using Evelyn’s distinctive practices, her legacy and vast career archive, the Foundation inspires active, receptive listening, helping to create a society where communication and social cohesion are improved by the act of listening.
Our culture and values
Listening is our USP - a skill integral to all walks of life and an activity that never sleeps. We all listen, but do we do so wisely? To define listening through the ears alone is limiting, to define it through our presence enables genuine change.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
As a new Foudnation still to recruit it's first members of staff, we are a warm and inclusive team of volunteers, some of whom have been with Dame Evelyn through her career and newer colleagues from wider walks of life, inspired by her mission.
Though the Foundation’s work exists for everyone, part of our purpose is to support those who face challenges in effective communication and participation in society as a result of physical or mental challenges, trauma or other conditions. We are keen to hear from people who can help us to develop truly diverse approaches, or bring lived experience to help us interpret our mission for those who are more excluded or facing barriers.
We are keen to accommodate diverse styles of learning and engagement, and naturally we support any reasonable expenses that you might incur as a volunteer.
